We get asked all the time what people can do to make the most of being with Flick to bring their power bills down.

Flicksters have saved, on average, $417 in the past 12 months compared to what they would have paid with their previous retailer (and that includes prompt payment discounts) just by riding the lows and highs of the spot market. But if they’re saving-savvy and change the time of day they do a few things, savings can rocket much much higher.

Changing the time of day you run appliances that use the most power can potentially save you a heap of money. With a little planning, and by using timers, it’s all too easy! Here are some examples of some of the savings up for grabs:

Anything else?

Why, yes! There are plenty of things you can do on a daily basis to reduce how much power you use, and, correspondingly, how much you spend on it:

  • Take shorter showers
  • Do your laundry on a cold wash
  • Put your clothes on the washing line when the weather is playing nicely
  • Consider your lightbulbs – do you really need that 100 watt bulb? 60 could do the trick and cost less, and are energy efficient
  • Unplug electronics you’re not using
  • Replace your heat pump & AC unit filters regularly
  • Seal up the cracks – doors, windows, cracks in the walls – you could reduce the cost of your heating significantly
  • Stop pre-rinsing – dishwashers are actually there to do that job and you’re wasting water in doing so
  • Use table lamps instead of the main light
  • And our personal favourite, watch less TV – talk 🙂

Using electricity at times of the day when demand is lower and prices are cheaper, and using less overall, will save you money and is better for the environment. The less pressure we put on our precious energy infrastructure, the better for the planet and the economy. And that’s gotta be good!

EECA has a great website full of energy saving tips, and if profanity doesn’t offend you, take a look at this site which offers advice on small things you can do in your daily life to undo some of the damage we’ve done to the planet.

We often hear from Flicksters that they have installed all sorts of gadgets to help reduce their power bill by making the most of the changing spot price of power, or who’ve totally changed the way they use their power.  We love that! So, Flicksters, please share what gadgets, tips & tricks you have to offer others by commenting and sharing!
