We just wanted to give a huge shout-out to Taika Waititi and everyone involved with the awesome new film: Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Four days after release (March 30), 100,000 people had watched the film, and it gained $1.3 million in box office sales in the opening weekend alone, making it the biggest ever opening weekend for a New Zealand film!
If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard about this new kiwi hit, it’s a movie based on Barry Crump’s novel, ‘Wild Pork and Watercress’. The story follows a nationwide manhunt that arises after a boy and his foster uncle go missing in the New Zealand bush. With some familiar kiwi faces such as Rhys Darby, Sam Neil and Oscar Kightly, as well as some new faces, and a 5 star rating from Kate Rodger at News Hub, we’d say it’s a must see!
A HUGE congratulations to Taika and the team – there’s some exceptional Wellington talent involved and we love seeing people from our hometown making their mark on the world. And it’s amazing to see kiwis achieving such great things on an international scale.
