It’s raining, it’s pouring… and if you live in Dunedin right now, that rain is liquid gold!
OK, we realise it might sound like we’re putting way too much of a positive spin on what’s been a very damp summer so far, but thanks to all of that rain, the power prices in your local network are ridiculously low! Wahoo!
Well, all that rain of late means Lake Manapouri is absolutely chocka-block. The hydro generators are running around the clock, channelling all the water that’s fallen into its catchment areas and around the Waitaki generation chain. The hydro stations are working non-stop to use the water (or in some cases ‘spill’ it, if the lake level is too high), so the price they’re selling electricity into the wholesale market at is very low.
And because the local transmission lines can only carry so much power, they’re currently at maximum capacity transporting that power directly to Dunedin. That means that those low, low prices are available in Dunedin, and Dunedin alone!
There’s a catch though: you’ll only receive those low prices if you’re with an electricity company that doesn’t have set fees. Like us! If you’re in Dunedin and you’re with Flick, then you’re paying the wholesale price for electricity – and that means you’re receiving ridiculously cheap spot prices at the moment!
Not with Flick? Well, we hate to break it to you – but you’re seriously missing out! Our Dunedin Flicksters have saved, on average, 41% over the last week, compared to what they would have paid with their old retailer. That’s HUGE!
Don’t worry though, because it’s not too late. Join Flick now, either online or by giving us a call on 0800 4FLICK (435 425), and find the silver lining in those very dark and dreary clouds!
